FORT DODGE – The Iowa Central men’s soccer team took a very significant step in announcing their presence in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference with a hard fought 1-0 win over defending ICCAC Champions Iowa Western Monday afternoon at Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex.

The Tritons (2-0) broke through midway through the second half when David Arthur won header and set up Max Peterson for the only goal of the game. Peterson broke through the back line of the defense untouched to burry the goal.

Iowa Central then had to use some crafty defense and a little luck to hold off the Reivers’ charge. Iowa Western created several scoring chances late, and even had a shot hit the left upright, but they were unable to capitalize.

The hard fought win came at a time when the Tritons were very vulnerable as they were down two starters. Starting forward John Morgan and defensive captain Tommy Catania were both out for the match as they were ejected in Saturday’s game against Laramie.

The Tritons are back in action when they travel to St. Louis for the Missouri Invite. The Tritons will play St. Louis-Forrest Park on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 3:00 p.m. They will finish the weekend with games on Friday against Jefferson College at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday against Allen County at 11:00 a.m.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Iowa Central men’s soccer team improved to 3-0 on the season as it shut-out St. Louis Forest Park, 2-0, Thursday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo., in the Tritons opening match of its Labor Day Weekend trip.

The Tritons (3-0) rode the hot play of freshman goalkeeper Kyle Fitch as he recorded his second straight shut out. Max Peterson got the Tritons on the board at the 60-minute mark as he buried a shot into the top corner of the goal.

Fifteen minutes later Jared DeHart gave the Tritons an insurance goal as he scored a goal off a cross from Peterson.

“We continue to make improvements each day,” said head coach Brandon Ermels. “Our team’s primary objective is to work harder and be more organized than every opponent. A victory is simply the byproduct of us achieving our primary objective.”

The intensity level will go up a notch tomorrow as Iowa Central squares off against No. 9 Jefferson County at 5:30 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo.

FORT DODGE – The Iowa Central men’s soccer team seems to have a strangle hold on the ICCAC Players of the Week early in the season as Austin Otto and Max Peterson were honored each of the first two weeks.

Peterson, a freshman from Lakeville, Minn., received the honor in the season’s opening week as he helped lead the Tritons to a 2-0 week with wins over Laramie and defending ICCAC Champions Iowa Western. Peterson netted the only goal in Iowa Central’s 1-0 win over Iowa Western.

Otto, a freshman from Iowa City, had a ridiculous week in the season’s second week as he helped Iowa Central to a 2-1 record at the Missouri Invite in St. Louis. His weekend was highlighted by a three-goal performance in the final game against Allen County. He gave Iowa Central a 1-0 lead at the 20 minute mark, broke a 1-1 tie in the 82nd minute and netted the third goal in the 87th minute. Earlier in the tournament, he led the Tritons with six shots in a 2-1 win over St. Louis-Forest Park.

The Tritons are back in action this Saturday when they play host to Dakota County at 1:00 p.m. at Harlan and Hazel Sports Complex.

FORT DODGE – The Iowa Central men’s soccer team opened the season on a positive note as it used two first half goals to put away Laramie CC in a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon at Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex.

The Tritons (1-0) had a big day from three freshmen to seal the win. Freshman Jacob Fahrenkrug assisted on the first goal of the game to freshman Austin Otto at the 20-minute mark. Fahrenkrug then did the work himself five minutes later a he netted an unassisted goal to give the Tritons a 2-0 lead they would relinquish. Freshman Kyle Fitch made his collegiate debut in goal as he played all 90 minutes and recorded eight saves.

Iowa Central had Laramie figured out for the first half as it took a 2-0 lead into the break. Not long into the second half, Iowa Central freshman forward John Morgan received a red card and Iowa Central was forced to play a man down the rest of the way. The Tritons remained in control, keeping Laramie off the board until the final five minutes of the match when freshman defender Tommy Catania received his second yellow card. The result left Iowa Central with nine men on the field and Laramie was finally able to break through.

“It was a good opener for us,” said second-year head coach Brandon Ermels.”We were faced with adversity and came through with a positive result.”

Iowa Central is back in action on Monday, Sept. 1, when they play host to defending ICCAC Champions Iowa Western in both squads ICCAC opener. The match will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Harlan and Hazel Rogers Sports Complex.
